New Year Begins!!!

NFL National competition was exciting and rewarding. Randall Oliver made it to the semi-finals in Student Congress and he and DeForest Gordy both received national gavels as presiding officers. I am very proud of all our national competitors this year. Camp was excellent for several of our students - Mark Bloeman, Matt Seawright, Cade Stripling, Caroline Hill, Hayley Spires and Logan Herrera attended the Hallsville camp. Destiny Caldwell (8th grade) and Maddie Burton attended the Mary Hardin Baylor University Camp. Destiny won first place in the novice division in LD Debate and Maddie was chosen as Top Speaker in the novice division. Randall Oliver attended the Tommy Franks 4Star Debate Camp and won 2nd place overall. He had quite an adventure. Savannah Williamson is involved with Lindale Link this summer and is learning about communication up close. Haley Spires and Natalie Borger attended the West Texas State Poetry/Prose camp and did quite well. We are excited that the speech/debate team will be part of the Grand Opening of the new Lindale Performing Arts Auditorium on Sept. 17. We will hit the ground running with this and the tournaments. Baylor University will be here early Sept for our debate seminar which will include schools from around East Texas. Another of our Lindale graduates will become a debate coach this fall - JP Fugler is the new coach at Van High School. Former Van debate coach and Lindale Speech/Debate graduate, Rory McKenzie is the new debate coach at Royse City. I am so proud of all our former speech/debate students who are now coaching. Our theme for this year will be GROW - beginning at the bottom - work+organization+responsibility=greatness. You will have the choice to be great, but in order to reach that goal, you must be willing to work, to be organized and to be responsible. I look forward to a great year with great students who achieve GREATNESS through their ability to GROW. Tournaments have begun. All students are invited to participate in tournaments. The school pays our fees, BUT IF A STUDENT DOES NOT FULFILL COMMITMENT to go, he/she will be required to pay entry fee.
