For those in TJC Evening Speech Class - Class Assignments will be listed on LHS website - changes will be made here and should be checked on weekly basis if you are not in class for any reason.  If for any reason class is cancelled, it will be on this website, plus I will email you personally or text you if possible.

 

August 25 - Class Overview - Assignment of Demonstration Speech/ Mosaic

Sept 1 -Presentation of Mosaics and then begin introductions

Sept 8 - Introductions, Aristotle Lecture

Sept 15 -  Presentation of demonstration speeches, assign speech on person 5 to 7 minutes long with outline required

Sept 22  - CLASS BEGINS AT 6:00    Finish demonstration speeches, assign speech on person 5 to 7 minutes long with outline required -

 

Sept 29 - Presentation of Speech on Person - 2 copies of outline required - 1 for you and 1 for me turned in with critique sheet

Oct 6 -No class - Write 3 page typed paper -  Discussion of current events and the way they affect our lives - - articles on current events, newspaper or internet article from week about current event.   Watch news broadcast and discuss different ways news is covered and what aspects important in a speech to inform and differences in informing and persuading. Give specific instance of how source used persuasive techniques rather than just giving information in the presentation of the information about the person or event.  Paper must contain at least 3 different sources explaining one current event - ex - Presidential race, US economy, Tea Party Movement, etc - you will give a speech on this later using the information contained in the paper plus more information you will gather later - due next week on Oct. 13.

Oct  13 -Impromtu Speeches, One on one short debate on selected topics.

 

Oct . 20 - Persuasive speeches -  CLASS BEGINS at 6:00 Discuss - power point presentations and how power points are effective in presentations.  Hour 1 - Lecture on how to and hands on with computers on different way to incorporate devices into presentations for public speaking.  Last hour - work on computers on presentation.

Oct 27  Power Point Presentations Due - Should be 10 minutes in length and speech should be main emphasis - power point is aid to the speech

Nov 3  Class begins at 6:00 Continue and finish power points - Begin group discussion unit

Nov  10- Group time for each group to prepare group discussion

Nov 17 - Finish power points/ discuss group discussion

Dec 1 - Group Discussion


Dec 8  - Final Exam - Speech on Current event using information you developed in paper you wrote earlier in semester
